Hiya, Jack! It’s Josh from MAGfest! Just started marathoning your show and I am indeed intrigued. The choice to have Jackula be an alien vampire as opposed to a traditional one is interesting. A reference to Vampirella, perhaps? The steampunk elements of the costume compliment that idea pretty well, adding some science fiction elements to the Victorian Gothic horror aesthetic. Gets me thinking of what “Planet Dracula” might look like.
Although I have to say, the thing that has me really hooked was your comment about Firefly. Whenever someone tells me they’re going to take a movie or TV show I love and rip it a new one, I look at it as something of a challenge. “You claim you can convince me that one of my all-time favorites sucks? Bring it on!” So I look forward to seeing what you have to say on the matter. If it’s about the Outlaw Star thing though, I have to say, I’ve seen that series and I don’t buy it. Yes there are a few incidental similarities, but overall they’re about as similar as River Tam is to River Song. The characters are completely different (even Melfina and River aren’t that similar personality-wise), The setting is completely different, the tone and themes are completely different. It’s about as close to plagiarism as The Lion King and Kimba.
